Brief history of Royal Salt Mine-Wieliczka-Poland

Salt Mine Wieliczka is situated in the town so-called Wieliczka just 15 kilometers from Krakow. It is one of the most popular destination among tourists from all over the World.  It’s unique character deserves particular attention. Based on the depth underground and curved completely in salt makes it incredible, monumental and astonishing. In 1976 the Mine was put on the National Register of Monuments and two years later in 1978 was placed on the first page of UNESCO Heritage List. The Salt Mine has been acknowledged as one of the seven miracles of Poland in the plebiscite made by one of the biggest polish newspapers. In 1996 salt was stopped from being brought out. Nowadays Salt Mine Wieliczka serves mainly as e Museum and also for concerts, respectable events, hotel and spa for people with lung problems. After check in you will walk downstairs to the depth of 64 meters to 135 meters.

Way down leads on about 800 steps but as a great consolation, you will be lifted up by the elevator. Tour in the Salt Mine lasts between 2-3 hours. When you are done simply come back to the car park and the driver drives you back to your hotel in Cracow.

The Mine exists deep underground. The temperature there is between 14-16 degrees Celsius all year long. Mind the fact it may be damp and slippery. If you would like to take pictures there must buy special permission to do so and stick it in visible plays on your clothes. Be prepared for a long walk and try to wear comfortable shoes!
